What Can Happen?

A head injury or concussion can occur due to a direct impact, acceleration/deceleration, or rotational forces to the head. This is followed by secondary biochemical alterations. The effects are usually temporary. Some concussions cause loss of consciousness, but most do not.

What Can You Do?

  • Always seek emergency medical care.
  • If you have a head injury, the brain needs a period of rest.
  • Gradually resume daily activities. Do not take on more than you feel comfortable with. Overexertion can lead to increased fatigue.
  • If your problems persist after four weeks, seek medical treatment. An assessment by both a doctor and a neuropsychologist is essential to evaluate various functions and find suitable treatment. You will also need help with strategies to make daily tasks easier. It is important to use energy resources sensibly and economically, utilizing various tips and tricks.

What Can You Expect?

After a concussion, patients often experience symptoms such as headaches, dizziness, nausea, and high levels of fatigue. Generally, these symptoms subside within a few days or weeks, and most patients recover and resume daily life. However, some patients may experience persistent problems with symptoms such as brain fatigue, concentration difficulties, sensitivity to light and noise, headaches, and dizziness. Fatigue levels may vary, often increasing throughout the day. It will also take longer than usual for these patients to regain their mental energy.
